What a pleasure to work with friends at the Farnsworth Art Museum on N.C. Wyeth: Poems of American Patriotism, an important exhibition running June 16 through October 28, 2018, at their Rockland, Maine, location. The show features the original paintings (lent by The Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania) that Wyeth created as illustrations for a book of patriotic poetry published in 1925.
I had the privilege of editing the catalogue, beautifully written and meticulously researched by Chief Curator Michael Komanecky. I learned much about the role of poetry in American life in the period between the Civil War and World War II. Visitors to the exhibition will, too; I will also be reviewing the exhibition texts to make sure these big ideas translate into the Farnsworth’s galleries.
