Celeste Roberge: Ocean Floors

Seaweed Boat Digital Print, (c) Celeste Roberge

Maine native Celeste Roberge is one of the major figures in contemporary sculpture nationwide, represented in collections ranging from the Runnymede Sculpture Farm in California to the Crystal Bridges Museum of Art in Arkansas to the Portland Museum of Art right here in Maine. I was honored to write about Celeste for the Maine Women Pioneers exhibition series at the University of New England in 2013, and she liked what I wrote so much that she asked me to write the brochure essay for her solo exhibition at the Crisp-Ellert Museum of Art, Flagler University, St. Augustine, on view March 7-April 19, 2014.

Here is a complete scan of the exhibition brochure with the full text of my essay.

Here is a promotional flier with an excerpt–featuring beautiful images of Celeste’s cyanotypes of North Atlantic seaweeds.
